Abstract

Academic stress is one of the factors that affects the mental health of students. The pressure arising from the demands of completing final assignments, preparing for exams, as well as expectations of graduation and the transition to the workforce, can lead to a decline in psychological well-being, which may adversely impact students' mental health. This study aims to describe the level of academic stress and the mental health condition of students at Poltekkes Kemenkes Palangka Raya. The research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, involving 73 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The instruments used include the PSS-10 (Perceived Stress Scale) stress scale questionnaire and the SRQ-20 (Self-Rating Questionnaire) mental health questionnaire. The results of the study show that 49 respondents (67.1%) experienced moderate academic stress, 17 respondents (23.3%) experienced mild stress, and 7 respondents (9.6%) experienced severe stress. Meanwhile, 40 respondents (54.8%) were categorized as potentially experiencing mental health disorders, while 33 respondents (45.2%) were not at risk. Based on statistical tests, a P value of 0.000 was obtained, indicating a significant relationship between academic stress and students' mental health. These findings suggest that the majority of students experience moderate academic stress and are at risk of mental health issues. Therefore, special attention is needed to maintain the psychological well-being of students
